Biography

Dr. Sheila Hughes is entering her fifth year at North Hopewell-Winterstown (NHW) Elementary and her thirteenth school year in the Red Lion Area School District for the 2025-2026 school year. Before joining the team at NHW, Dr. Hughes served as the principal at Windsor Manor Elementary (2018-2021) and Clearview Elementary (2013-2018). She is committed to collaborating with the families, staff, and students to create a safe, nurturing, and inviting learning environment.

 

Dr. Hughes holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education (2004) and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (2006), both from Bloomsburg University. She began her career teaching special education at the elementary and middle school levels in a rural district near Harrisburg, PA, where she later served as an elementary assistant principal. Dr. Hughes earned her Principal and Supervisory of Special Education Certificates from Shippensburg University and received her Reading Specialist certification in 2015. In 2025, she completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Immaculata University, where her research focused on principal self-efficacy and teacher retention.

 

Dr. Hughes has been married for 18 years. She resides in the Red Lion Area School District with her husband, John, and daughters, Reagan (9) and Reese (8), who also attend North Hopewell-Winterstown Elementary. Outside of school, Dr. Hughes enjoys reading, running, traveling, and spending time with her family—often on the sidelines coaching or cheering on her girls in their extracurricular activities.
